Popularly known as “The Indian Salsa Princess” or “SalsaSneha”, Sneha Kapoor is widely credited with putting the Indian Salsa scene on the world map. Sneha is the first Indian to represent India and win at many International Salsa Championships. Living in Mumbai, she began her career in dance with Lourd Vijay’s Dance Studio in 2006. It was the beginning of a meteoric career that embraced different dance forms like Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Jive, Hip-Hop, Adagio and Bollywood etc. Passion drives Sneha to give it her best every time she puts on her dancing shoes.
Sneha Kapoor was a talented athlete growing up but dancing happened by chance. She didn’t realize she had two perfectly good dancing feet till Lourd Vijay’s Dancing School spotted her star quality in 2006 and planted the idea in her head that she could be a professional dancer of caliber. Richard Tholoor (who later became her dancing partner) saw the potential in her to go big and he wasn’t wrong. She won her first salsa championship in 2007 and several more competitions with him as a partner. They are now established A listers on the international dance circuit.
The journey from stage to TV hasn’t been an easy one. In 2008 Sneha was in a road accident that broke her right leg in 3 places and even today, dances with a rod in her leg. The accident prevented her from dancing for 30 arduous months. Her belief in herself stayed strong and her love for dancing stronger still. It powered her return to dancing with even greater resolve and she was seen on one popular reality TV show after another. India’s Got Talent, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Dance India Dance. Everywhere her performances and choreography was recognized and appreciated by her contemporaries, judges and industry stalwarts. In an environment dominated by Bollywood, Sneha Kapoor is only one of a few torch bearers for Latin Dancing with its smooth elegance, stylish romance and precise skill.
